A pair of small textile works, The Grove I & II is a response to an intimate observation of the flowering cycle of Coastal Banksias in their natural environment. The works are a direct reflection of this growth pattern, when seen together, the bulging needle-felted forms rising above densely stitched punch-needle surfaces, with porcelain elements emerging from these soft mounds, echo each other. Responding with a range of green wool fibers and handmade porcelain elements, each work is a deconstructed, sculptural interpretation of a garden landscape, monotone in palette, yet rich in form and texture. Delicate wool loops, scattered across the surface, echo the fine inflorescences of the banksia flower spike, adding both visual and tactile intricacy.
