‘Beautiful Scrubland, Nail Can Hill’ 2025

Nail Can Hill is a bushland that at first glance could seem to be innocuous, or perhaps unremarkable, with broken branches, weedy grasses, and scraggly trees. However, if one takes time to ‘slow look’, to take a longer moment to ‘reflect’ and regard more closely the curious nuances, sometimes-whimsical forms, and delicate intricacies, it becomes a gentle and thought-provoking landscape. My objective is to bring these observations and ideas to my painting, where every inch of the painting honours and considers this beautiful scrubland.
