The theme of ‘Reflection’ encompasses my practice and my work evolves around the notions of perception. Working with the mediums of oil, acylic and water, these materials all combine and fight for their place on the canvas. What may look tranquil from afar is actually the result of a hard-fought battle of materiality. This piece, Mirage, is a gentle work and yet, likes its title, sometimes our perspectives are not what they seem. What can appear as a dreamy vision, can in-fact be an illusion. We can not always see what goes on under the water, and even when we can, the focus and perception is distorted. I have introduced the high gloss band as a delineation as well as playing with the reflective nature of water.
