‘And Breathe’ 2025
acrylic, graphite and colour pencil on board
41 x 25cm
‘And Breathe’ is a small diptych that conveys the sense of tranquillity I feel when surrounded by nature. Typically, I paint geometric images of the built environment in a reductionist style, rejoicing in the way architectural forms create shapes and shadows. ‘And Breathe’ is a departure from these hard-edged images. In this work depicting bushland surrounding a pool of water at the Jackalope property in Balnarring, the cloudy sky is reflected in the water creating an ambiguity within the image. The symmetry of the reflection mirrors my interest in formal compositions despite the non-existence of a straight line within this landscape.
