Tideways Beach, Sorrento in Victoria has always held a strong connection for me as I have been a visitor to this special spot since childhood. It holds strong memories of a well visited place with family, friends and sometimes in solitude. Walking and breathing the sea air and immersing the senses have inspired me to paint different aspects of this landscape in all seasons and at various times of the day and observe the changing light, colour and atmosphere. I continually observe and learn about this place through my painting practice and each time I paint it I feel a sense of connection and deeper understanding of the intricacies and familiarities of “Tideways”. The old beach boxes, the wobbly jetties and the erosion that has started to appear all symbolise European settlement since 1803.
