I Saw Two Whales Passing By
2024
oil on board
55 x 65cm framed
I am a Melbourne based artist, for the last two years I have travelled down to the Mornington Peninsula every week to paint. Drawn by the need for silence and space I paint en plein air, using oils, immersed in and responding to the particular colour, light and energy of a specific time and place. These wild coastlines have blasted my head clean and brought me peace. For this painting I was drawn to the clumps of plants clinging to the sand on the windy cliff top near Blairgowrie. I saw two whales off the coast as I set up, surviving, like the plants, against the odds, reminding me that life is tenacious, and nature will flourish if given half a chance.
