handwoven textile
84 x 24cm (x2)
Art practice in woven textiles is developed and established over the last thirty seven years and is focused on exploring thematic language between landscape, unconventional materiality and human form/condition. Australian natural environment beckons engagement at a deeply personal level, building knowledge by immersive primary experience over a long period of time. Personal engagement with primary sources in different habitats reveals the peculiar aspects of visual culture.
Spending time in it is an ongoing process of building relationship, as much as it is developing deep knowledge of oneself.
A deep sense of connection and belonging occurs when time spent in nature inspires to ignite ideas, analogies and metaphors with which to develop new artwork. Woven textile is peculiar in that one starts with line – thread. To build innovative three dimensional structure and surface from thread is a personal objective, to make significant impact on the long term development of weaving.
