We continue to welcome applications from artists, groups, and curators who would like to be considered.
The Blackroom is an intimate gallery space with controlled lighting and has been a successful addition to the Cook Street Collective exhibition program, presenting artists from across Australia since 2019.
Our exhibition committee selects and schedules the annual exhibition program from the applications received.
Exhibitions in The Blackroom run for three weeks, with one exhibition presented each month (12 exhibitions annually).
Submissions to exhibit in The Blackroom are accepted exclusively via the online application form on this page.
Gallery details:
- Dimensions of 470cm x 315cm provides 14.8 sql of floor space, 12.6mtr of hanging wall space.
- White plaster ceiling, polished concrete floor, and as the name suggests… black painted plaster and brick walls.
- With track lighting, hanging system, plinths if required, and in-house professional hanging team at cook street.
- The exhibition will include a street frontage window (max 1 artwork no larger than 1.6mtr wide) and window vinyl.
Cost/Commission:
The cost to exhibit in the Blackroom is $400 (+gst)
Cook Street retains 40% commission on all sales.
Exhibitions Include:
- Installation by our skilled in-house team
- Support and advice from our team
- Option for opening event – typically this is drinks with the artist held from 2-4pm on the 1st Saturday of the exhibition. (An opening is completely optional)
- Promotion to gallery mailing list and on Socials
- PDF catalogue of works
- Full catalogue of works on website, with ability to purchase online
- Gallery invigilation (artists are not required to sit gallery)
- Signage
Successful applicants:
If you are successful with your proposal and offered an exhibition, the following will be required:
- Gallery quality presentation of your work, including viable method to install (ie d-rings etc)
- A statement about the artist(s) and exhibition (to be included in the catalogue)
- A title for the Exhibition
- Current CV or Bio
- Print quality digital images of the works, and preferably some artist at work and/or studio imagery to assist in promotional content.
- Full details of works to be included (title, dimensions of artwork, dimensions of frame (if relevant), materials used, year of work, price of work (including commission, and gst where relevant)
- GST status, and ABN if relevant
- BSB and account details for payments of any sold works.
We will notify you of timing requirements of the above in relation to your exhibition dates.
