The anticipation and menace of a thunderstorm that refuses to break always heightens my senses of observation and being immersed in the environment. Sitting on the beach and watching the weather out at sea, you can smell the change in the air, feel the wind whip the water and the fleeting light that dances and glows. Listening to nature forges a connection with a place. In the moment there is a thrill to get out of the open, to seek shelter but not wanting to miss nature’s show. In the studio, I can take my time witnessing the storm build on my canvas. Each landscape is the result of a journey, an ongoing interaction with the land and informs my favourite painterly moody skies and textures of natural environments.
