The painting was inspired by our discovery of the Fairview Park in Hawthorn a few years back after my beloved and I had attended a performance by the Australian Discovery Orchestra of Vaughan Williams’ somewhat experimental 8th Symphony at nearby Scotch College. It was an exceptional Autumn day in the best Naarm/Melbourne tradition, with the sun glowing through the trees and dogs having a most enjoyable romp in the green parkland alongside Birrarung / Yarra River on the lands of the Wurundjeri people. We strolled from one end up to the other and back again, our small fluffy dog enjoying the walk as much as we were. I had painted my first dog park painting back in 2008 and then I painted a dog beach work in 2016. It was time to do another!
