When I moved from the city, one so familiar for all of my life, to a new home in a new region that is rural, there was fear & trepidation. With the move to a rural area, I felt an awaking of trying to find my place, in this new home. It is new people, new environment, new landscape. Forgotten was the hard concrete city, replaced with the soft mountain breeze & stars that can be clearly seen. The rush & the hustle was gone, but I still felt it; I still felt that urgency in my mind. “These Mist Covered Mountains” relates perfectly with this years theme of Walking + Knowing, as the new landscape has hypnotized me with the movement, sounds & colour that now surround me. I allow myself to fall into a trance with the landscape, to slow down. I am hyper aware of the sights & sounds around me. Whether it’s the blue wrens bouncing between shrubs, or the swaying of the trees, or the mist that penetrates the sky on a winters afternoon – I am connected to it all. From this, I observe & paint.
