My work resonates with the theme of Walking + Knowing through the intimate act of engaging with place. Inspired by my local waterway, where I walk daily, this work captures the changing light and shadows cast by native trees. It is also an attempt on my part to work lightly in the landscape, letting the light and the flora create the images used in my work. The act of recording these moments and then translating them into clay feels like a way of acknowledging my emerging relationship with this Country and reflecting on the stories it holds. As a recent immigrant to Australia, I am trying to learn from traditional custodians and working to form my own connection to the landscape. This series is as much about understanding the environment as it is about understanding my own role within the larger ecosystem—letting the landscape inform the work and allowing space for reflection on our individual and collective connections to nature.
